If you’re having trouble resetting your Kwikset door lock, follow these easy steps and you’ll be back to normal in no time.
One of the first steps in resetting a Kwikset door lock is to gather the supplies that are necessary for resetting the lock. The supplies can include a paper clip, a flathead screwdriver, and a new lock cylinder. Also make sure you have the original key for the door lock, as this will be necessary for the resetting process. With the supplies gathered, you’ll be ready to begin resetting the Kwikset door lock.
Before resetting the lock, make sure you have all the necessary supplies and tools to do the job. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, and some toothpicks. Depending on your model lock, you may need additional tools like short pliers or tweezers. Additionally, you will also need graphite powder or light machinery oil to activate the latches and pins of your lock after it has been reset. Make sure all supplies are readily available before beginning the reset process.
Remove the Lock
Removing your Kwikset door lock is the first step in resetting it. To remove the lock, you’ll need to use a drill or a screwdriver. If you have a drill, use a Phillips bit and make sure it’s set to a low speed. If you’re using a screwdriver, make sure it fits the screws on the Kwikset door lock. Once you’ve removed the screws, you can pull the lock away from the door.
Remove the screws
To gain access to the lock cylinder, you will need to remove the screws that are located on either side of the doorknob or handle. Begin by disconnecting any decorative elements like faceplates. Use a flathead screwdriver or a Philips head screwdriver to remove these screws. Once all of the screws have been removed, carefully pull off the door hardware using caution not to damage it further.
Depending on its design, your exterior door handle may also contain a small tamperproof screw underneath its button or lever. You may need to use a special tool such as an impeller key in order to remove this screw. If you can’t find one in your local hardware store, you could purchase an accessory set for door locks which will contain this type of key as well.
Once all of the necessary screws have been removed and stored away for safekeeping, you will be ready to access the lock cylinder and reset your Kwikset door lock according to your own unique combination code.
Disconnect the wires
Disconnecting the wires is an important step in resetting your Kwikset door lock. Begin by turning off power to the lock. Unscrew the screws from the front of the lock and remove back plate from door. Locate wires running from battery pack to inside of mechanisms housing, usually labeled on the backplate for reference. Unscrew screws securing black and red wires to connectors and gently pull them out. Make sure to detach blue ground wire if there is one present as well. This will complete the disconnection process of your Kwikset door locks wiring and reset it for reprogramming.
Reset the Lock
Resetting your Kwikset door lock is a relatively simple process. It requires some basic tools and a few steps that you can follow to make sure your lock is reset to the factory settings. This can be done in order to reset the combination of your door lock, or if you want to reset the lock if it has been tampered with. This article will go over how to reset a Kwikset door lock.
To reset the Kwikset door lock, start by locating the small black button on the inside knob. Press and hold this button for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, release the button and turn the interior knob back and forth three times quickly. This will finish resetting the door lock, causing it to return to its factory settings. It is important to note that resetting a Kwikset Door Lock will only work while in unlock mode, meaning that you must have already unlocked it before you can reset it.
If your Kwikset deadbolt has a Z-Wave feature, you may need to also remove it from your network before resetting it. To do this effectively, press and hold down on both sides of the programming buttons until both LED lights flash simultaneously on either side of your interior handle approximately four times. Once complete, you should see that Reset was successful indicated via LED light until both LED lights flash simultaneously again letting you know that it has been successfully removed from your network.
Enter the new code
To enter a new code into your Kwikset door lock, start by pressing the program button. Once it is lit and beeping, you will enter your new code. Make sure you remember this code as it will be used to gain access to your home. For best security practices, use a combination of numbers that you wouldn’t normally think of. After entering the four or six-digit code on the keypad, press the “program” button again to finish the unlocking process. You will then see a green light indicating that the programming is complete and that your lock is now unlocked with your new code!
Reinstall the Lock
Reinstalling a Kwikset lock can be an easy task if you have the right tools and the knowledge to do so. In this article, we will discuss the steps on how to re-install a Kwikset door lock so that your door will be back to normal. Before starting, make sure that you have all the necessary tools such as a screwdriver, a drill, and a leveler. With all these items handy, let us get started with the reinstallation.
Reconnect the wires
Before you can begin to reset the lock, the wires must be reconnected. Most Kwikset locks have 3 wires with up to 5 connectors. Push in and twist each connector to make sure it is securely connected, then insert them into the matching port on the side of the lock. Refer to your installation instructions if you are unsure where they need to be installed. Once all of the wires are attached, you can either choose a new combination or reset your existing combination by pressing the reset button at back of the cylinder core.
Reinstall the screws
Once you have secured the lock in its correct location, you can begin to reinstall the screws. First, insert the four mounting screws that secure the lock to the jamb plate. The mounting screws should be tightened securely but not overly tight as this may cause damage to the locking mechanism. Once all four of these screws are installed and tightened, you can then insert the two latch screws into their respective holes in order to secure the latch and ensure it moves freely within the jamb plate. Again, make sure these screws are tightened securely but not overly tight. After both sets of screws have been properly installed, then you are done with your Kwikset door lock reset.
Test the Lock
Resetting your Kwikset door lock is a simple yet important process. To ensure that the reset was successful, you should always test the lock. Testing should be done before you close the door and after you have reset the code. There are several steps to testing the lock, so let’s get started.
Test the lock with the new code
Testing the lock with the new code is an important step in the Kwikset door lock resetting process. You’ll need to make sure that the new code you have entered works and that your door will lock and unlock properly with it. To test the lock, enter your new code into the keypad. Once you’ve done so, press down on the small button at the center of keypad. This should cause your deadbolt to retract or extend and lock or unlock your door. If you’re successful, your door should now be unlocked or locked depending on whether you tried locking or unlocking it first.
Once you’ve confirmed that your deadbolt is turning when you press down on this button, check your door’s actual operation. Double-check that it locks and unlocks properly when entering and leaving from both inside and outside of it – this is an essential step for successful rekeying! Finally, leave the house as usual to complete testing as without a person opening or closing a Kwikset interior doorknob itself, they cannot confirm that its reset was successful or not.
