Testing your Blink Home Security System is essential before you use it. Testing will help you make sure that each aspect of the system is functioning correctly and any potential problems are identified before they can cause any damage. This section will cover the various ways to test your system before installation and give you some tips on how to run the tests effectively.
Test the motion detection
Once your Blink Home Security System is connected to the Blink mobile app and all of the cameras are installed, you should perform an initial test of the motion detection. You can do this by standing in front of each camera and verifying whether it detects motion or not. If motion is detected, check that a notification is sent to your mobile device. You can also verify that the video clips appear in the Blink app feed so that you can review any captured activity.
It is important to note that some false alarms may occur due to animals, plants moving, shadows or other instances. To limit false alarms, use the On-Demand Motion Detection feature which allows you to define specific times when you want alerts sent out based on activity within a certain distance from your cameras. Adjusting sensitivity settings will allow you to find a good balance between avoiding oversensitive notifications and missing critical security events.
Test the notifications
Once you have set up your Blink Home security system, it is important to test the notifications to make sure that they are working properly. This will help ensure that you receive timely alerts should any activity be detected in your home or business.
You should begin by testing the notifications on each camera individually. Open up the Blink Home app on your device and click into each of your connected cameras. Make sure to leave all of the cameras connected while this test is taking place, and rotate through each camera as needed.
When viewing each camera individually, you can activate motion or sound detection manually and watch for notifications to be sent to your device. You can also view live stream and recorded clips from each camera directly in the Blink Home app. Once all of this has been tested for each individual camera, check that you’re receiving notifications accordingly and revise your settings as needed.
Once you have confirmed that all individual cameras are properly functioning, reset the motion/sound detection on all of them at once from within the app. Check for proper notification delivery once again across all connected cameras before concluding your test session for good measure!
Test the live streaming
Once you have your Blink Home Security System up and running, it’s important to test the live streaming functionality. Live streaming allows you to watch what is happening in and around your home even when you’re not there. It should provide clear video footage with minimal lag time. To test the live streaming, follow these steps:
1. Connect to the Blink app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. Navigate to the “Live View” tab in the app.
3. Examine the video to determine whether it is clear and responsive; if there is any lag in terms of playback, this can lead to a less-than-optimal user experience while monitoring your home security system remotely.
4. Test out audio on both ends of the camera connections – this will help make sure that sound will come through both ends while monitoring remotely so that you are able to hear what’s happening at home if you are away or asleep at night.
5. Check for any watermarks that may be visible on the video; these may indicate some sort of fault in the system which requires more detailed inspection by a professional security technician for troubleshooting purposes.
Setting up and maintaining your Blink security system can be an important step in keeping your home safe and secure. It’s important to make sure your system is in good working order and up-to-date with the latest security features. This section will discuss different maintenance tips and tricks to make sure your Blink system is running smoothly and effectively.
Check for firmware updates
When Choosing a System, it is important to routinely check for firmware updates. Firmware is the underlying software that controls your equipment’s functions, and having an up-to-date version ensures that your camera and sensors are always operating at peak performance.
To check for available firmware updates, start by opening the Blink Home app on your smartphone or tablet. Then tap on “Settings” in the upper right corner of the screen and select “System Updates.” The app will detect if there is a new version of firmware available for any of your home security devices, and provide instructions on how to install it.
Before downloading a new version of firmware, be sure to read its release notes so that you are aware of any necessary precautions or changes. Depending on whether these adjustments require manual input, it can take some time for a complete installation – however, after taking all steps recommended in the release notes carefully and giving them enough time to take effect, you can rest assured knowing that each device in your Choosing a System is up-to-date and performing at its best!
Clean the cameras
Regular cleaning of your Blink cameras will help ensure they continue to function properly and remain free from accumulated dirt and debris. To clean each camera, you should use a soft, non-abrasive cloth dampened with water or a non-abrasive glass cleaner. Never use paper towels, chemicals or aerosol sprays that may damage or corrode the camera components. If necessary, simply wipe away any accessible dust or dirt with your damp cloth. For higher footage resolution on your Blink cameras, you should also take care to keep your security lenses clean and clear of any obstructions. There should also be no blockage of the camera’s motion sensor lens area either-keeping an air gap between it and anything that might come within its range is important for optimal film clarity.
Check for any loose connections
It’s important to check all wires and cords connected to the Blink Home Security System are properly connected. Begin by unplugging the power supply input from the wall outlet and plugging it back in. This will reset your system and make sure no exposed wires have been dislodged from their sockets. Similarly, be sure that your cables are properly secured to prevent them from falling out of their sockets during operation.
Additionally, make sure the hub base is placed on a flat, secure surface to reduce vibrations or disruptions that can cause it to disconnect. Anytime you move your router or set up your security system in a new spot, it’s a good idea to check that all connections remain firm and secure before turning it on again.
